Recommended viewing: this short documentary about the Oakland-based Shannon and the Clams, which features a tour of their practice space, follows them on a trip to Office Depot to buy merch packaging, and provides some insight into their gaudy, glittery live show. Says singer/guitarist Cody Blanchard: “I grew up in an era of cargo shorts and baseball hats, and I think that’s kind of boring. If you’re gonna be onstage performing, you should, I don’t know, look good.” Cut to a clip of the band wearing Santa Claus beards and elf shoes. So freaking fun, these guys.
p.s. What I’ve heard of their new album, Dreams in the Rat House, is amazing.
